Can I connect an AEM CD dash to a factory ECU (e.g. BMW M57 diesel)?

AEM dashes do not have a ready-made configuration for most factory ECUs such as the BMW M57D. You can connect the dash to the vehicle CAN bus and decode the CAN messages yourself, but this requires deep knowledge of that specific CAN network.
