It delivers complete tuning control including Ti-VCT variable cam timing (four cams), Drive-by-Wire (plug included on harness for quick integration of the Ford Drive-by-Wire pedal assembly), active CAN controls, dual on-board Lambda AFR control, dual knock control and speed density fueling to eliminate the MAF. A base map is available for the Coyote for quick start up.

A robust fuse and relay panel is integrated into the 30-3813 Coyote harness adapter. It includes relays for the radiator fan, coils, injectors, Infinity ECU, starter and fuel pump, and flying leads for starter, ECU controlled fuel pump, clutch-switch activated starter safety lockout, ignition switch and tachometer. CANbus support is included for the Electronic Power Assist Steering (EPAS) when using the Ford Racing M-3200-EPAS Boss 302R electronic steering rack, with minor additional wiring.

REQUIRED ITEMS

T Two Bosch 4.2LSU sensors are required for Lambda feedback control (PN 30-2001). A MAP sensor (PN 30-2130-50 3.5BAR) and air inlet temp (AIT) sensor (PN 30-2010 3/8” NPT) is required for conversion to speed density. MAF is not supported. AEM offers higher pressure MAP sensors for high boost applications.

AEM recommends the purchase of its Infinity Auxiliary Sub Harness (PN 30-3510-00) for easy installation of the MAP and AIT. This sub harness connects to a connector with a High Performance DTM-Style 12-pin connector for adding common aftermarket sensors including fuel pressure, oil pressure, boost control solenoid and ethanol content. The expansion port also includes a sensor ground, 5v reference, power from relay and high side output for activating a solenoid, and switched inputs for auxiliary radiator fan, boost target and no-lift shift.

The 30-3813 Coyote wiring harness includes a connector to enable control of the Ford Racing Boss 302 Alternator Kit (Ford PN M-8600-M50BALT). Users who do not have this alternator may need to purchase it for proper connection.

The Drive-by Wire pedal assembly is not included with the 30-3813 Coyote wiring harness. For Drive-by-Wire integration the Ford pedal assembly (Ford PN BR3Z-95836-D) is required.

THE BENEFITS OF CONTROLLING FORD'S TiVCT WITH INFINITY

The engine tested was a 100% bone stock take out from a Mustang GT. The power and torque data shown is representative of optimized cam timing and not just sending the cams to their max advance/retard positions. The purpose of the testing we did was to show the changes in torque/power output based purely on optimizing airflow by varying both the intake and exhaust cams while maintaining the same AFRs and using the same ignition timing. We felt this was prudent as some competitor systems that also have EMS solutions for the Coyote aren’t able to do variable cam control and have attempted to downplay its real benefits. We feel these dyno results pretty clearly show how beneficial the Coyote variable cam system is.

As is shown, we first ran the engine with both the intake and exhaust cams at their resting positions (fully retarded for intake and fully advanced for exhaust). Fueling was adjusted to reach target AFR and a base timing value was established. We then started tuning the intake cams only and through a series of pulls, found optimized cam advance values that netted the best increases in torque/power output. We repeated this same process for the exhaust cams while also moving the intake cams. In each iteration, fueling was adjusted to account for increases in airflow in order to reach our target AFR. This is the typical process for variable cam tuning on any engine.

We ourselves were surprised by the results – especially the gains made by retarding the exhaust cams. We’ve done a lot of variable cam motors in the past and are used to seeing sizeable gains by advancing the intake cams. In most cases however, moving the exhaust cams has usually netted a decrease in torque output as there is fuel/air charge dilution by the exhaust gases. It’s common that variable exhaust cams are used much like EGR for emissions purposes by the OEMs so it was surprising when the Coyote made huge gains by varying the exhaust cams. It was very evident to us that varying both sets of cams was vital in getting the Coyote to its full power potential.

CAPABILITY

AIRFLOW MODEL BASED CALCULATIONS

Infinity’s airflow model based systems greatly reduce the amount of time it takes to set up and tune an engine by eliminating many of the lookup and trim tables (correction tables) necessary in previous generation ECUs. The Infinity’s airflow based, or volumetric efficiency (VE) based models calculate an engine’s requirements in real time based on an advanced algorithm that has various modes for calculating air flow. Once the user inputs an engine’s basic parameters (displacement, cylinders, ignition type, and firing order) and methods of calculation for airflow and ignition they can begin setting the engine’s VE table in the software.

InfinityTuner USER INTERFACE SOFTWARE

InfinityTuner is optimized for speed and performance. The software has the power to control a multitude of features found in today’s modern racecars, and features an advanced tuning Wizard to reduce set up time. An ECU Setup Wizard takes complex calibration setup work and simplifies it through a smart interface that features tabs for quick set up of vital engine functions. Each tab includes a description of the function.

InfinityTuner software is highly flexible. It allows you to choose from multiple strategies for boost control, idle control, traction control, charge air temp blend, launch control and more.

All controls in the Infinity ECU are synched to logged data which allows users to edit calibration data during log playback to minimize tuning time. AEMdata, AEM’s advanced data logging analysis software is also included for reviewing data logs.

ULTRA-HIGH RESOLUTION FUEL CONTROL

The Infinity ECU calculates injector pulsewidth in units of 1/10th of a microsecond (0.0000001 second). Individual cylinder fuel trim is included and user adjustable.

ACCURATE IGNITION TIMING UNDER ANY CONDITION

InfinityTuner software features a 3D ignition trim map (coolant and air temp based), and its back-end timing code is tested to 100,000 RPM. Individual cylinder ignition trim is included.

FLEX FUEL COMPENSATION

It includes idle control, an optional drive by wire rev limiter (for use as a launch limiter, holding limiter or in conjunction with other rev limiters) and necessary failsafes based on redundant sensor inputs. Traction control via drive by wire will be added in the future at no additional cost for existing Infinity ECU owners

IDLE CONTROL

The Infinity ECU uses a coolant temp based idle control model. It includes an RPM vs. Engine Speed Rate idle decel feature that provides accurate control of the IAC and allows for adjustment of engine braking. The Infinity’s idle TPS offset provides smoother low idle operation when necessary, like driving in the pits or return lane following a pass.

MULTIPLE BOOST CONTROL STRATEGIES

Choose from time, gear, vehicle speed, switch based or other boost control strategies. The Infinity’s boost control includes two 2D base duty tables and two 2D boost target tables. The second tables can be used as a trim, and users can choose from multiple strategies including IAT, MAP, Baro (kpa), throttle %, flex fuel content, boost target and more. Please visit our Forumfor an in depth review of the Infinity’s boost control capabilities.

NITROUS CONTROL

The Infinity’s software allows you to run a single-stage wet or dry nitrous set up (four-stage available soon). This feature includes nitrous timing delay to account for nitrous bleed out, and can be set up for water/methanol injection tuning. Four stage nitrous will be upgraded for free for existing Infinity users when it becomes available.

VARIABLE VALVE CAM CONTROL

Set base duty, limit and VVC cam target for up to four cams through the InfinityTuner Wizard. Users are able to achieve a VVC cam target by setting Cam 1 base timing and base duty cycle % in a 2D table, and the software features a 1D base duty % table that controls the base duty cycle for the VVC output, which is tunable based on the VVC target.

MAP SWITCHING

The Infinity includes up to four separate ignition maps, four separate Lambda maps and two separate VE maps with independent values. Using AEM’s 12 Position Trim Pot, this powerful feature delivers many valuable tuning options including:

  • Multiple maps for multiple track conditions (practice map, rain map, qualifying map, FTW map)
